Laurent Koscielny has expressed his delight for Jack Wilshere after the midfielder scored his first goal of the season in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Montpellier.

The England international gave Arsenal the lead after he lifted the ball over goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren from Olivier Giroud’s knock-down.

It was Wilshere’s first goal in 725 days, and Koscielny admitted he was delighted for the midfielder.

“I’m very happy because Jack lost more than a year with injury,” Koscielny said.

“He’s a very good player. He’s young and has a long career in front of him. He played well for the team and it’s good he scored.

“It is very important for a Club like Arsenal to qualify [for the knockout stages].”
