INTERVIEW WITH.......CESARE MALDINI

Only Uefa Cup. A dream for Milan fans to repeat the day of 5th May 2002, with the championship lost by Inter, and the fourth place reached in the end. All the dream are disappeared with Ibrahimovic goals and Osvaldo performances that have bought Fiorentina in Champions. Last time in which Milan are not participated to the greatest competition was in 2001, with Cesare Maldini, who replaced Terim during the season.  So we decided to interview the former Manager for know something more about a Milan frustrated, but ambitious and with a great will of win again.

Have you been surprise by Cassano convocation
"Difficult to judge, the choice is of the manager. He was playing so good, has made great things, but not only in the last competitions".

There will not be problems, seen his behaviours?
"The duty to menage the group is of Donadoni. If he has decided to want him in team, that mean they have evaluated all the hypotheys and is sure that will be all ok".

He has left home Inzaghi...
"I'm sorry, becuase he has made everything for be summoned, also because his age. Displease, but you know there is always someone that is excluded.

He has said that he waited a call from the manager...
"About this will be Doni to answer, everybody has his method. I had my behaviour".

Did you explain it?
"I'm sorry, but something could not be said.."

How do you see this Euro Cup?
"We must say that we start well. We have a team with new elements. As Borriello and Cassano. Also Borriello deserved a chance, because he has been the first striker for many time during championship.

There is also Montolivo...
"Montolivo is a promising young that deserve to be summoned. He was track since many time and his performances has been flawless".

In Florence someone waited the convocation of Gamberini...
"Are manager choice. He has confirmed all the defensive line, even if lack only Oddo and Bonera. Sometime you must decide the way to take, even considering the performances shown".

Did you expected a championship, all decided the last day?
"I can say that if you made me a question like this some months ago, I would had declared that I didnt expect a championship like this. Inter had a great advantage of 11 points, and have lost all during the time, even because the several serious injuries. Has been a great final. Even for Champions opened. A last Sunday all special, clear that some sorrows remain".

Did you thought to a Milan out from the first four?
"I would say no, I hoped that could arrive fourth. Even because was in a good moment of championship, but all has happen in Napoli. In that moment Fiorentina have overcome them. Viola are arrived fourth. Honestly I didn't expect the fourth place for Fiorentina. They have made a great championship and also for Uefa they deserve the final competition. Against Rangers have been unlucky".


 An wrong year for Milan, according to someone...are you agree?
"Champions League of Athens, Montecarlo SuperCup, World champion Club Cup of Yokohama are three great results. A Cup that has made of Milan the most awarded of World. Then there are been many problems, in championship maybe they could do better. But can't speak about setting up again. Galliani is still working and knows what lack".

Galliani has declared to want win championship
"Yes is true, will be the Italian championship the first target. Until this moment Milan, are always been an international team, and they have always appreciated to do well in the world. This has happen before of the arrival of the chairman Berlusconi and with him always more. At this point the next year they want to win championship, for present to fans "Scudetto"".

There were also the farewells of Cafù and Serginho
"Yers, are two great players that have given so much to Milan. Cafù has always made good, both with Roma that in Milan, and now will end his adventure in Brazil. While Serginho will become the chief scouts".

His son Paolo will play still one year?
"Don't ask me nothing about the future of my son, even for me has always been all unknown. With him a don't speak about that. Seen that he has to recover by the injury, he remains to train still, in Milanello until the eight June, while all the other are in holiday".

Is arriving Ronaldinho...
"I don't know still, there are many names... If should arrive, could only be a pleasure, seen that is a player of international level. In Barcelona he has had some problems, but is still one of the greatest players of the international football".

What will be the market of the future?
"There are many names, Galliani and Braida are two good market scouts and know what team need, I can't say some possible targets, are efforts that I leave to them".

What is the targets of next year?
"Win Scudetto and Uefa Cup".

But is so dramatic to play in Uefa Cup?
"I would say no...is the only Cup we don't have...Is not a problem to play Uefa. Players are professional sports men and are used to play international cup, and will do seriously even this time".
