Both repeatedly linked to a move to a top club, Southampton star centre-backs José Fonte (33, in photo) and Virgil Van Dijk (25) are the real winter targets for Saints manager Claude Puel. To this end, Premier League side head coach told media: "José's situation is a little peculiar, but he is however on a deal with Southampton. Virgil is a very important player for us, and he will stay here. It will be important with Virgil to continue his work, and help us go up on the table. I don't even take into account the chance Virgil leaves.

Of course they will both stay, at least beyond January. It's always speculation about players, in times like this. It's normal, because they are great and important players. But it's important for them to stay, have a good attitude, and improve our position in the table".
