They say good things come to those who wait, and that's certainly been the case for Nigel Clough after he landed the man at the very top of his summer shopping list yesterday.

The Derby County boss swooped to sign Coventry City's much-sought-after central defender Richard Keogh yesterday for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

The Rams had their bid for Keogh accepted earlier in the week and after talks with the 25-year-old on Tuesday, Clough faced an anxious wait for just over 24 hours as he waited for an answer from the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international.

Keogh was courted as by as many as three other Championship sides, but Derby's persistence and patience was finally rewarded as he completed the formalities of his move just before 5pm on Thursday afternoon.

Clough is convinced Derby have not only landed a player who will add quality to their backline, but also a character who will relish the opportunity to play a leading part in the Rams' future.
