SEVILLA FC, Papu GOMEZ: "Maybe I joined here because of Maradona"

Playing for Sevilla FC since late January, Argentinian international attacking midfielder and winger Alejandro "Papu" Gomez (33), interviewed by Marca, stated: "I can't really say why I chose this very club. Maybe because a lot of my Argentina teammate were already there. Or maybe because of Diego Armando Maradona. He's like a god for us people from Argentina, and wearing the same jersey he wore it's something special, and unique, to say the least.

Anyway, what I really wanted was playing in one of Europe major leagues, since hitting a minor one would have costed me the national team. I was waiting for the right opportunity, and, when Monchi got in touch with me, I knew Rojiblancos were the one for me. This group welcomed me properly, also thanks to my three fellow countrymen here, and I think we can keep on growing and improving. Besides, between the Covid crisis and all the financial uncertainties, I couldn't keep on playing in Italy

My plans are to keep on playing for Sevilla, and help the club be among La Liga top four. And someday, maybe, challenging Barcelona and the Madrid giants for the title".
