L'Equipe explained on Tuesday that negotiations between Stade Rennais FC and AS Saint-Étienne were about to agree on the transfer of M'Baye Niang (26). The Senegalese striker would have been released from his last 2 years of contract with the Breton club, which would however have retained a percentage on resale thereafter. But Claude Puel, the coach of the Greens (AS Saint-Étienne), who had initially validated this track, finally retracted.

Bruno Genesio, who said at the start of the transfer window that the former AC Milan striker was on the market, no longer counted on M'Baye Niang. The latter was already announced on the side of Geoffroy Guichard last October, before being also linked to a possible transfer to the side of Saint-Étienne during the last winter transfer window. It will not be, and the fate of the one who has also been through Watford, Torino, or Genoa should probably not be written with the Greens.
