The microcosm of the ball was eagerly awaiting its return. This year, the Ballon d'Or France Football returns after a year of absence marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and more or less truncated competitions. Observers were therefore going to scrutinize very closely the list of 30 nominated for this 65th edition. This Friday, October 8 also marked the announcement of the nominees for the Women's Ballon d'Or, the Yachine Trophy which crowns the best goalkeeper, and the Kopa Trophy which rewards the best player under 21 years old.

Regarding the men's Ballon d'Or, here is the established process: a jury made up of 180 international journalists was responsible for determining the 30 nominees. At the same time, this same jury was in charge of the 10 nominated for the Yachine Trophy. 50 journalists specializing in women's football chose from their side the 20 nominated. Finally, 32 former winners of the trophy awarded by France Football nominated the 10 nominated for the Kopa Trophy. As usual, five names were revealed every half hour. For this new opus, the list is particularly prestigious.

As a reminder, the award ceremony will take place at the Theatre du Chatelet on November 29. In 2019, Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon d'Or, Megan Rapinoe had been sacred among women. Alisson Becker won the Yachine Trophy and Matthijs de Ligt gleaned the Kopa Trophy. Who will be the lucky ones chosen for this 2021 edition? The suspense remains!
