After having defeated Liverpool at Wanda Metropolitano (by a 1-0 final result), Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, previewing Anfield Road second-leg match, stated: "We have to start the game strongly. Anfield is a wonderful stadium, in which Liverpool achieved epochal goals, and tomorrow’s match will be extremely demanding. We’ll need to be very focused. If we take the game in the direction we want it to go, we can damage our opponents".

Right away, Colchoneros deep-lying playmaker Thomas Partey added: "Liverpool are doing really well this year, and this match will be very tough for both sides. We’ll need to be 100% focused, from the first minute. Playing against Reds at Anfield is a dream of mine coming true".
