Last playing for Portuguese side Portimonense, 34-year Colombian striker Jackson Martinez announced having quit playing professional football. Former Atletico Madrid and Porto hitman, through an Instagram post, stated: "I want to share with the world my decision to terminate my career as a professional football. It was a very hard decision to make, though I think it was the wisest move possible. Since my ankle injury, back in 2015/16, I started fighting and struggling, in order to be able to play again the way I wanted to, which turned out being a very hard aim to accomplish. Anyway, I thank all my trainers, my teammates from both clubs and national team, my family, everyone supporting my career, including fans and journalists. Just thank you all".
Martinez, who recently started a career as a Catholic-themed rapper, ended his post with a quote from the Bible (Romans 8:28): "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose".
