Interviewed by ESPN, Colombian international attacking midfielder/winger James Rodriguez (29) disclosed himself upon his recent career choices: "Honestly, I'd never have joined Everton, if it weren't for Ancelotti being there. It was the key factor for me to embrace Toffees. Atletico Madrid? It was almost done for me to join them. I was granted a position by Simeone, but Real eventually chose not to let me be an integral cog of Atleti. Anyway, I'm happy I have joined Everton, and I've been able to display my real numbers".

Playing for PL side since last September, former Bayern Munich playmaker is currently on a deal with them until June 2022, including a year-long extending option.
