Brazil federal police are investigating four Argentina footballers for allegedly giving fake information when they arrived in Sao Paulo for a World Cup qualifying match.

After seven minutes of play on Sunday, agents from Brazil's health agency, Anvisa, demanded that England-based players Emiliano Martinez, Emiliano Buendia, Giovanni Lo Celso, and Cristian Romero be taken to the airport for violating coronavirus regulations.

According to Anvisa, Argentina soccer officials had known since Saturday that the four players — three of whom were on the pitch — should not participate because they had spent 14 days in the United Kingdom prior to their arrival, but had failed to notify authorities as required. A 14-day hotel quarantine is required for visitors from the United Kingdom.

The four players were given written notice to leave the nation on Sunday night, according to Brazilian federal police, who confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday. They traveled to Buenos Aires with the rest of the Argentina team shortly after. The game was called off due to a lack of a score.
