Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in a thrilling match in the Spanish capital on Tuesday, with Mohamed Salah scoring a late penalty to settle a game that had a little bit of everything.

Salah's deflected shot and Naby Keita's magnificent volley gave the Reds a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes, only for Antoine Griezmann to net a brace before the break to finish a frantic 45 minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano.

However, early in the second half, the Frenchman was sent off for kicking Roberto Firmino in the head, and despite pushing with ten men, Atletico eventually succumbed when Mario Hermoso's perplexing challenge inside the area allowed Salah to coolly step up and slot home the game-winning penalty.

Soon after, the host team felt it had a spot kick of its own, but a video review overturned the call on the field, and the visitors won Group B by three points.
