Galatasaray initially gave up on midfielder Mohamed Elneny before re-establishing contact to land the Arsenal star on Wednesday, which was the deadline day of the Turkish transfer market.

This week, it was reported by Takvim that the 29-year-old Egypt international had reached a principle agreement with Faith Terim’s side. It was also explained the Super Lig side would have to negotiate a deal with the north Londoners if they were to clinch the transfer.

The window closed and they ended up without the former Basel ace. According to a recent report from FotoMac, the Turkish outfit showed interest in Mikel Arteta’s player and a few other players until the last minute of the market.

The club even made contact to acquire Mohamed’s services, but an agreement could not be found because of the high costs. It is not made clear whether the agreement wasn’t found with the Premier League outfit, the midfielder or with both.

Over at Hurriyet (one of the major Turkish outlets), they report Galatasaray finished the market without Elneny, and that is because Arsenal didn’t back down to sanction the star’s transfer.
