The debates over the too frequent repetitions of international breaks and the possibility of organizing a World Cup every two years have reached FIFA's ears.

The world football body has decided to consult federations around the world to consult for a new organization of the calendar of women's and men's selections "which expire at the end of 2023 and 2024 respectively. FIFA wishes to offer a forum for constructive discussions to a wide range of stakeholders, including supporters, and looks forward to discussing the sustainable growth of football at all levels and in all regions of the country around the world.

Good news for the federations and for the leagues, which had supported the clubs refusing to release their internationals, in particular because of the restrictions linked to COVID-19: “There is a broad consensus within football on the need to revise and improve the international match schedule. Following the invitations sent in early September to stakeholders, including all confederations, discussions will be organized in the coming weeks. Technical advisory groups have been set up under the leadership of Arsene Wenger, FIFA's director of world football development, and Jill Ellis, two-time world champion as a coach. Fans from all countries will also be able to make their voices heard. "
