With only 124 minutes played in 3 matches in all competitions at the start of the season, Jean-Philippe Mateta (24) is clearly not in Patrick Vieira's plans.

According to Bild, the latter, who is on loan from Mainz until next June, saw his coach inform him that he was not counting on him. A disavowal for the one who cost the Eagles € 3.5m and whose purchase option was set at € 10.5m.

Asked by the German media, Christian Heidel, the sports director of Mainz, took stock of this issue: “The contract is clear. Mateta has a contract with Crystal Palace until June 2022. Sportingly, it also seems clear. He can leave the club in winter. This only happens with our agreement. However, an early return is not currently envisaged. ” It is also rumored that Mainz coach Bo Svensson would struggle with the profile of Jean-Philippe Mateta and would not want a striker who does too little defensive work.
