Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admits his side had a bad day after Crystal Palace won 2-0 at the Etihad, handing the English champions their first home defeat of the season.

After falling behind to Wilfried Zaha's early goal, City defender Aymeric Laporte was sent off for bringing down the Ivorian as he sought to break clear.

After a VAR review, Gabriel Jesus' equalizer for the 10 men was ruled out for offside in the second half, before Conor Gallagher sealed a memorable triumph for the Eagles with two minutes remaining.

"When you play 50 minutes 10 against 11, it is difficult for a team like us because you need the process and to do everything right," said Guardiola.

"The players showed character and tried, but unfortunately many, many things went wrong and we lost the game."
