PREMIER - Overmars tells Newcastle definitively no

Marc Overmars will not move to the Premier League, The Athletic reports. The technical director was in the picture to work as a sporting director at the ambitious Newcastle United, but he prefers a longer stay in Amsterdam. This means that the former top attacker does not respond to the billion-dollar call from the south coast of England.

Overmars was one of the top candidates to arrange the transfer policy at The Magpies, but has declined the offer. At Newcastle United he had boundless resources to build a successful formation. The club hopes to attack the English and global top in the foreseeable future on the basis of the new Saudi Arabian owners.

Due to his excellent work at Ajax, Overmars quickly came into the picture and according to De Telegraaf, the director even had talks with Newcastle United. According to various English media, the club was prepared to offer the technical director a quadrupling of his salary. Yet Overmars does not like it and remains loyal to Ajax, with whom he wintered in the Champions League for the first time since 2018.

Overmars still has a contract until mid-2024 in Amsterdam. The 48-year-old policymaker started in 2012 as director of football affairs in Amsterdam and has raked in countless millions for the club in recent years. Next summer, he seems to be able to fill the Amsterdam coffers considerably again with players such as Antony and Ryan Gravenberch.
