From Liga Financial, Manchester United head-coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly informed Phil Jones that he is in the club’s plans for the 2021-22 season.

The 29-year-old defender has not featured in a competitive game for the 20-times English champions since January 2020 following a long-term knee problem, however, he played 30 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley on Tuesday.

Jones’s future at Old Trafford continues to be called into question, however, according to the Daily Mail, Solskjaer is planning to use Jones as one of five defenders this campaign.

Raphael Varane has arrived at the team this summer and could make his debut against the Saints on Sunday, while Eric Bailly Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are also battling for the centre-back positions.

The 29-year-old centre-back still has two years left to run on his current deal at Old Trafford, while he has played 224 games for the Red Devils in all competitions, founding back of the net six times and 10 assists in the process.
