After Fiorentina supporters sang racist slogans towards Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, the Italian football association (FIGC) said on Monday that it will launch an investigation.

According to DAZN, the Senegal centre-back, as well as club colleagues Victor Osimhen and Frank Zambo Anguissa, were racially abused during his team's 2-1 win in Florence on Sunday.

The Florence police will be contacted by the FIGC prosecution for information, according to the prosecutor.

"Regarding the racist expressions uttered by Fiorentina supporters to the Napoli player Kalidou Koulibaly, the federal prosecutor's office has opened an investigation after having read the reports of its own inspectors and heard the player," the FIGC said in a statement.

Racism has a long history in Serie A, with many occurrences already this season.
