A few weeks after the events, the disciplinary committee of the League delivered its verdict on the Nice-OM meeting.

We will end up believing that Olympique de Marseille has its napkin ring at the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP). A year after the story between PSG and OM then between Neymar and Alvaro Gonzalez, the Phocéens had another appointment with the body on Wednesday.

What was judged this time were the incidents during the meeting between Nice and OM. Supporters sent bottles onto the lawn, one of which hit Dimitri Payet, who replied. There followed an impressive chaos, an invasion of the ground, then finally the end of the match.

But we did not stop there. While the referee, Benoît Bastien, thought that the match could not resume, he was summoned by the prefect to resume the match. This provoked the ire of the leaders of the OM, who decided to leave the enclosure, interrupting, in fact, this confrontation in the 75th minute.

The committee therefore had to decide on the result of the match, but also on the sanctions of certain participants in the incidents (Pablo Fernandez, Dimitri Payet, Jean-Clair Todibo, Mattéo Guendouzi and Alvaro Gonzalez, in particular).

For an exceptional event, an exceptional place. This time, the commission was not sitting quiet, on Wednesday evening, rue Léo Delibes in Paris, at the headquarters of the LFP, but in a Parisian hotel.

At the beginning of the evening, the body chaired by Sébastien Deneux, delivered its verdict:

“In view of the serious violence, the Disciplinary Commission had decided on August 25, 2021 to place the case under investigation and, as a precaution, to pronounce a Total closed session on the Allianz Riviera for the OGC Nice - FC Girondins de Bordeaux meeting and to suspend Mr. Pablo Fernandez, physical trainer for Olympique de Marseille.

After reading the investigation report in the presence of the two clubs, the Commission pronounces the following decisions: The match OGC Nice - Olympique de Marseille is given to replay. Three matches in complete camera for OGC Nice, including the OGC Nice - Olympique de Marseille match which will be replayed in complete camera on a relocated field.

A total closed-door match was purged as part of the precautionary measure. Two penalty points at OGC Nice including one suspended point. Suspension of the sidelines, referees' locker room and all official functions until June 30, 2022 of Mr. Pablo Fernandez, physical trainer for Olympique de Marseille. Two games of suspension to Alvaro Gonzalez. A suspended match against Dimitri Payet." The committee was therefore not kind to the two clubs.
