Joe Mansueto, the owner and chairman of Chicago Fire FC, has announced the purchase of FC Lugano of the Swiss Super League, giving the historic MLS team a European partner.

In a release, Mansueto stated, "We now have a partner club where, when authorized, players may transfer between teams - from Chicago to Lugano and vice versa." “The clubs will provide each other assistance and exchange best practices. We wish to offer delight to the Lugano fans while also growing the club. I'd like to express my gratitude to Georg Heitz, our sports director, for his tireless efforts and foresight in acquiring FC Lugano. We are completely dedicated to investing in both of our teams, and we are quite optimistic about the future.”

FC Lugano was formed in 1908 and has competed in the Swiss Super League on many occasions, most notably from 2015 until the present.
