LIGUE 1 - Abidal admits affair with Kheira Hamraoui, wife seeks divorce
Eric Abidal, a former Barcelona player and current sporting director, is embroiled in yet another scandal. After he acknowledged to having an affair with Kheira Hamraoui, the Paris Saint-Germain footballer who was savagely beaten earlier this month by masked men, the Frenchman's wife has filed for divorce.
According to reports, Hamraoui called Abidal the night of the assault because he feared his wife was involved, but Abidal was taken aback by the call and denied any involvement. Between 2018 to 2020, Hamraoui was a member of Barcelona Femeni and Abidal served as the club's sporting director. He will be questioned by police in the coming days, according to police.
Abidal, 42, joined Barcelona as a player in 2007 and quickly established himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola's all-conquering club in the late 2000s and early 2010s. He left in 2013 for late-career stints with Monaco and Olympiakos, before returning five years later to take over as sporting director from Roberto Fernandez.
