Fenerbahçe have taken a decisive step towards shoring up their back line after agreeing a €10 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Milan Skriniar. The Turkish club have already sketched out the bulk of a four-year contract worth €8 million net per season and are now combing through the fine print with the 29-year-old.

The transfer, though, is not yet over the line. Skriniar, tied to PSG until 2028 on wages of €12 million a year, has requested a severance package before giving the move the green light, and that demand has slowed proceedings.

The Slovakia international is keen to play regular football after a turbulent first half of last season in Paris and a steadier six-month stint under José Mourinho. He would relish a leadership role in an ambitious Fenerbahçe side intent on reclaiming the Süper Lig crown, with the Istanbul hierarchy viewing his experience and authority as the ideal fit.

If the severance issue can be resolved in the coming days, the deal should be wrapped up swiftly, handing Fenerbahçe exactly the defensive linchpin they have been craving.
