José Mourinho gives green light as Victor Valdepenas closes in on Fiorentina move
Fiorentina are on the verge of completing the signing of Victor Valdepenas after José Mourinho gave the final approval for the defender's departure from Real Madrid. While the clubs had already agreed the terms of the transfer, the newly appointed Real Madrid head coach still needed to sanction the move.
Defender set to arrive in Florence
Mourinho has now given the deal the go-ahead, paving the way for the 19-year-old to complete his move to Fiorentina. The versatile defender, who can operate at both left-back and centre-back, is expected to provide another option for the left side of Fiorentina's defence, including in a back three. Valdepeñas is expected to arrive in Florence either later today or on Thursday.
Deal worth €8m
Fiorentina had already reached an agreement with Real Madrid over a permanent transfer worth €8m. As part of the deal, the Spanish giants will retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause as well as a buy-back option. With Mourinho's approval now secured, the transfer is expected to be completed shortly.
