Chelsea close in on double swoop as Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson prepare to join
Chelsea are set to complete two experienced signings within the space of a few hours, with Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson both closing in on moves to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are expected to confirm Welbeck's arrival shortly after the striker was granted permission to undergo his medical, while Jordan Henderson has already left Brentford by mutual consent ahead of his switch to Chelsea.
Welbeck set for medical
According to The Athletic, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion have reached a full agreement over Welbeck's transfer. Brighton have authorised the forward to complete his medical with the Blues, the final step before the deal is officially announced. The 35-year-old is expected to sign a contract running until 2028 after undergoing his medical in the coming hours.
Henderson bids farewell to Brentford
Following confirmation of his departure, Henderson thanked Brentford for giving him the opportunity to return to the Premier League. "I leave Brentford with enormous gratitude for the opportunity the club gave me and for the support shown to me and my family from day one. Returning to the Premier League was very important to me and Brentford made that possible. I'll always be grateful."
The former England captain also paid tribute to everyone at the club.
"I hope I was able to make a positive contribution during an important period for the club. We achieved some significant results together and everyone involved should be proud of that. Brentford are a special and ambitious club, full of outstanding people. A special thank you goes to the supporters, who backed us every step of the way."
