Inter consider Okoye as doubts grow over Josep Martínez: reports from Nigeria
Maduka Okoye could become a name to watch ahead of the January transfer window, with Inter reportedly considering a move for the Udinese goalkeeper. The Nigeria international has come under scrutiny following a costly mistake in his latest appearance, but that has not prevented him from attracting interest.
Inter are understood to be looking for greater reliability between the posts, with Josep ‘Pepo’ Martínez yet to fully convince. Any departure for Okoye could also have implications for Udinese, who already have a potential replacement in Bartosz Mrozek. For now, however, these remain reports rather than concrete negotiations.
Okoye to Inter? Reports emerge from Nigeria
Okoye’s costly error in Udinese’s latest match has not put an end to speculation surrounding his future. According to Il Messaggero Veneto, citing reports from Nigeria, Inter are monitoring the Udinese goalkeeper, who joined the Friulian club from Watford in 2023. The Nerazzurri are believed to be assessing their options in goal following a series of inconsistent performances from Josep Martínez.
Udinese, however, have reportedly placed a €20m valuation on Okoye, a figure that could prove a significant obstacle to any potential deal. No formal offers have been submitted, and any discussions over a transfer would have to wait until the market reopens in January.
Mrozek could provide an in-house replacement
Should Okoye leave, Udinese may already have his successor in the squad. Polish goalkeeper Bartosz Mrozek joined the club from Lech Poznań in the summer, having made 121 appearances and won two domestic league titles with the Polish side, most recently in May. The 27-year-old has already had an opportunity to impress in an Udinese shirt, featuring in the Coppa Italia tie against Venezia.
For Kosta Runjaić, then, the solution to a potential Okoye departure could already be available within his squad.
