Mattia Perin leaves Juventus as Palermo complete permanent transfer
Mattia Perin has completed a permanent transfer from Juventus to Palermo, ending an association with the Turin club that began in the summer of 2018.
Both clubs confirmed the move on Wednesday morning, with Palermo announcing that the 33-year-old goalkeeper has signed a multi-year contract.
The transfer gives Palermo an experienced goalkeeper with extensive Serie A and European experience as they continue to strengthen a squad with ambitions of returning to the top flight.
Perin departs after eight years at Juventus
Perin made 71 appearances in all competitions during his time as a Juventus player. Although he was rarely the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, he developed a reputation as a reliable deputy and remained an important figure inside the dressing room.
His spell in Turin brought four major trophies: two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and one Italian Super Cup.
There was also a temporary return to Genoa between 2020 and 2021 before Perin rejoined the Juventus squad and resumed his role in Turin.
Juventus' goalkeeping department has changed significantly this summer. Michele Di Gregorio has moved to Bournemouth, while Guglielmo Vicario arrived from Tottenham and Kamil Grabara has joined from Wolfsburg.
Palermo add Serie A experience to promotion push
For Palermo, Perin's arrival is a sizeable addition at Serie B level. He brings more than a decade of top-flight experience and the personality required for a side expected to compete towards the upper end of the division.
The goalkeeper is due to meet Palermo supporters at the Renzo Barbera on Wednesday evening, beginning the next stage of a career that has included spells with Genoa, Padova, Pescara and Juventus.
The move also illustrates Palermo's determination to add proven players rather than relying solely on potential.
For Juventus, meanwhile, the transfer completes another part of an extensive summer reshaping of the squad as Spalletti and the club's hierarchy continue to redefine the group for the new campaign.
