LIGUE 1 - PSG, the cause of Messi's exit finally revealed?
Replaced by Achraf Hakimi fifteen minutes from the end of the match on Sunday night, Lionel Messi saw, from the bench, his teammates win against Olympique Lyonnais (2-1) thanks to a goal from Mauro Icardi in the very last moments.
A strong choice by Mauricio Pochettino but a decision that the Pulga did not seem to understand, displaying at his exit a pout that could lead to believe that he was angry with his coach. Since then, the controversy ignites the web and the explanations given by the Parisian technician at the end of the match have not calmed anything:
“we have to make decisions during the match. Sometimes these choices pay off and sometimes not. But that's why we're standing in front of the bench thinking about what to do. And those decisions that you have to make, whether things go well or not. Whether you like it or not. "
Pleading a tactical choice to justify his choice to bring out the Argentine star, Pochettino did not mention the slightest physical problem concerning the six-fold Ballon d'Or. However, in a video from the match, several sequences reveal Lionel Messi testing his left knee, shortly before his replacement. Seriously affected in the same knee during the international break, Messi had received a killer tackle from Adrian Martinez, excluded, during the match between Argentina and Venezuela. A reason which could therefore explain the choice of Mauricio Pochettino in order to preserve his superstar. The PSG coach did not, however, offer this explanation while claiming that Lionel Messi had no problem with his change. If the former Barcelona did not react to this episode, his attitude after the meeting, leaving the stadium quickly without taking part in the celebration of his team, suggests a certain annoyance.
