Valentijn Driessen cannot fully agree with all the praise that national coach Louis van Gaal receives. The results of the Dutch national team have been good since his appointment, but according to the journalist that is not enough. According to him, Van Gaal's conception of the game should also fit with Orange, which is not the case.

"I hear from people who work with him that he is such a charming man, but I just wouldn't know it myself," Driessen lashed out in a conversation with Veronica Superguide. "I know what I think of him as a trainer and that is not necessarily positive," he was clear.

"I think it's not just the result that counts, but also the way in which it is done", Driessen seemed to refer to Van Gaal's preference for a 5-3-2 system. "For the Dutch national team that is the Hollandse School and Van Gaal unfortunately throws it out of hand."

That Driessen and Van Gaal are not always on the same page, was already apparent from previous press moments. "I only speak to him at press conferences and then I am not a lap dog, no," said Driessen, who has received the rumors that Van Gaal is using those collisions again as a signal to his group of players. "I've heard it, but not from Van Gaal himself or from players. I just know that nothing is easy with him, so I wouldn't be surprised."
