On Friday, Germany coach Hansi Flick recalled midfielders Julian Draxler and Julian Brandt for World Cup qualifying matches against Liechtenstein and Armenia, respectively.

The most recent of Draxler's 56 appearances for Germany came in a 3-3 draw with Switzerland in October 2020, under former coach Joachim Löw. Brandt last appeared for his country in a 3-1 win over Ukraine in November 2020.

Neither was a member of Germany's European Championship side that advanced to the round of 16 this year.

Ilkay Gündogan, a Manchester City midfielder, also returns after missing two national team games due to injury in October. Lukas Nmecha, a forward who has scored in both of Wolfsburg's Champions League games this season, has been called up for the first time.

Flick has won all five of his games as Germany's coach, securing a spot in the 2022 World Cup last month ahead of home matches against Liechtenstein and Armenia three days later.
