It is a visibly dejected Nestor Araujo who spoke to the media after the Gold Cup Final which Mexico lost 1-0 to Team USA in extra-time.

"It hurts, and even more because of the way their goal came about, on a set piece...Personally, I can say we are very sad, we feel impotent. It hurts but we have to go on." When he was asked about whether he agreed with manager Gerardo Martino that the most important thing would be to qualify for the next World Cup, he said that while it is important to get to the World Cup, when you get to a tournament final your duty is to win:

"It is important, when you get to a final you have to win it. Finals are made to be won, we have to accept that. Now we'll face the U.S.A. again in the World Cup Qualifiers, we have to do better there and we'll see what happens".

Mexico lost to the United States for the second time this year in a CONCACAF tournament final, first in the Nations League by a score of 2-1 and now 1-0 in the Gold Cup. The balance of power is certainly shifting in North and Central American football, we'll see if Mexico is able to respond and if Martino stays at the helm of the National Team.
