In a tweet on the Dutch Football Federation account, the Netherlands National Team announced they have appointed Louis Van Gaal as their new manager.

Van Gaal signed a deal that could potentially see him manage the Dutch in Qatar 2022. He will be joined by Danny Blind as his second in charge, Henk Fraser and goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek. This will be the third stint at the helm of the Oranje for Van Gaal, as he already managed the team starting in 2000 and a second time starting in 2012. The first time around he was sacked after he failed to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, while the second time around was the charm for him, has he led the Dutch to a World Cup semi-final in 2014, falling only to Argentina.

"Dutch football has always been close to my heart and national coaching is in my view a key position for the further advancement of our football. Moreover, I consider it an honor to coach the Dutch national team. There is little time for the next qualifying matches, which are immediately crucial for participation in the World Cup. The focus is therefore immediately 100 percent on the players and the approach. After all, I was appointed for that. It is good to be back in Zeist. By now I have already spoken to a number of players and the technical staff has been put together with the KNVB. I am very much looking forward to getting the job done together.” said Van Gaal in his first statement as the new Dutch manager.

He replaces Frank De Boer, who was sacked following the poor showing at Euro 2020 by the Netherlands, suffering a staggering upset in the round of last 16 at the hands of the Czech Republic.
