Manchester United is reportedly developing Hannibal Mejbri to replace Paul Pogba, according to The Athletic (h/t Daily Star).

Despite being given a huge £350,000-per-week wage, the French superstar is believed to have turned down a contract extension at Old Trafford this season.

Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly trying to put together a deal for the midfielder but were unable to match United's valuation of the 28-year-old. That does not rule out the possibility of the former Juventus star leaving United on a free transfer next summer.

The French international is in the final year of his contract, and if no extension is agreed upon by January, he will be free to talk to overseas teams about a pre-contract deal. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested, but it remains to be seen where the midfielder will end up next summer.

In the U-23s, Mejbri is being trained to play a bigger role than his customary number 10 position. The goal of this relocation is for him to be able to "dictate play" and take over as a straight substitute for Pogba.
