On Wednesday night, Ajax's UEFA Champions League campaign in 2021-22 got off to a stronger start.

Sébastien Haller's red alert goal gave the Dutch giants a 1-0 lead against Sporting only 68 seconds into the game.

Soon after, in the ninth minute, the 27-year-old increased their advantage, creating Champions League history in the process.

His quick-fire double set a new record for the quickest brace in competitive history.

On his competition debut, Haller added another goal to his score, bringing his total to four.

Haller is also the only second player to score four goals on his UEFA Champions League debut, with the first being Marco van Basten in November 1992 (for AC Milan v Goteborg).

Ajax confirmed the signing of Haller on a four-and-a-half-year contract on January 8, 2021. West Ham United was paid a €22.5 million transfer fee. Haller made his debut against De Topper rivals PSV two days later as a second-half replacement; he assisted Antony on Ajax's equalizing goal.
