Joao Mario just landed in Lisbon to sign with Benfica
As revealed by Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, midfielder Joao Mario just landed in Lisbon a few minutes ago, ahead of his impending signature on a contract that will tie him to Benfica.
Joao Mario just rescinded his contract with Inter, and is now a free agent, which will enable him to sign with the Portuguese club. Benfica beat out Portuguese Champions Sporting for the player, who will look to find a consistent spot in the starting eleven, after his poor performances had him relegated as a substitute while at Inter. With the nerazzurri he spent the better part of a year and a half, with 64 appearances and only 4 goals. In 2018 his long loan spell began, first with West Ham, then with Lokomotiv Moscow and finally last season he went back to the club that saw him emerge from their youth sector, Sporting.
He will now join fierce rivals Benfica, hoping to regain a good run of form and possibily be able to partecipate in next year's Qatar World Cup with the Portuguese squad.
