Sofyan Amrabat gave an interview to De Telegraaf shortly after the nightmare he experienced with the Moroccan national team in Guinea. Here is his reconstruction of those hours of fear, reported by Violanews.com:

“You know you take risks when you play for the national team of an African country but I didn't expect to end up in the middle of a military coup. Taarabt came to my room on Sunday morning and asked if I had heard the shots. At first I laughed, maybe it could have been fireworks, then we realized that it was serious.

My family was very worried, hearing gunshots interspersed with long silences was very frightening. There were 45 minutes by car to get from where we were at the airport but the military had blocked everything, including the airport. We were able to leave after our King contacted the new leaders. It was a strange and bad experience, I can only imagine the concern of my family ".
