GFC Ajaccio, who competed in Ligue 1 during the 2015-16 season but had recently been relegated to the fourth tier, is expected to go bankrupt and stop operations, according to Corse Matin.

On Tuesday, several current and former members of the club's management were arrested and the club's finances were seized as part of an investigation into the Corsican organized criminal group Le Petit Bar.

Mathieu Messina, the club's president, and shareholders Antony Perrino and Pierre Anchetti have all resigned. During the day, the five people who had been arrested were released.

Gazélec were relegated to the third tier after the Covid-19 outbreak brought the 2019-20 season to a premature stop in France, after a three-year stint in Ligue 1 following their historic lone season in the top flight.
