Como 1907’s plan on the left flank is clear: refresh the position, lower the age profile and move on from Alberto Moreno, whose contract is expiring. The idea is to bring in Kaiki Bruno da Silva as his replacement - a natural generational handover, but also a move designed to raise the level of the squad and push the club closer to genuine Champions League contention.

Barring any late twists, that is the direction of travel.

Back on the agenda
The first signing should be the 2003-born Brazilian full-back. It is a familiar scenario for Como. In January, an agreement with Cruzeiro EC appeared to be in place and Kaiki seemed close to moving to Italy. Even Cesc Fàbregas, in his own way, had hinted publicly that something was happening. In the end, however, the deal collapsed: then-Cruzeiro coach Tite opposed the move and Kaiki’s entourage stepped back.

Latest on the deal
This time, the renewed pursuit is expected to end differently. Como are close to completing the operation with Cruzeiro on the basis of an overall package worth €14m. The clubs are still working towards a final agreement, with only the last details left to resolve: the payment structure, possible bonuses and, above all, clauses linked to any future resale of the player.

Who is Kaiki?
One of the most interesting emerging full-backs in Brazilian and South American football, the 23-year-old has impressed with 32 appearances and four assists, as well as earning consideration from Carlo Ancelotti for the Brazil squad ahead of the World Cup. He made his first appearance for Brazil in April, in a 3-1 friendly win over Croatia. Kaiki is a modern, attack-minded wing-back: technical, dynamic, comfortable driving forward and moving inside between the lines, and strong in one-on-one situations.
