Real Madrid’s Cucurella deal also sends money Barcelona’s way: Catalans set to bank €1m
Marc Cucurella is officially a Real Madrid player. On Monday, Los Blancos completed the signing of the Spain left-back, securing him in a deal worth around €60m. It is perhaps the first genuine statement signing of the summer for the capital club. By landing Cucurella, Real Madrid have not only strengthened their squad, but also pulled off a major coup at the expense of two historic rivals, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona, both of whom had shown strong interest in the player.
But Pérez must now pay Laporta
As reported by Spanish daily AS, Barcelona can at least take some consolation from receiving a small slice of the deal.
Thanks to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism and training compensation rules, the Catalan club will collect just over €1m from the transfer.
It is hardly enough to fund a marquee signing such as Julián Álvarez, but it still represents a useful and unexpected boost to Barcelona’s finances — made all the sweeter by the fact the money will come from their great rivals.
