AS Roma enquire about Iván Fresneda as Sporting CP hold firm on €25m valuation
As Roma are looking to strengthen not only in attack but also at right-back following Zeki Celik's departure. The Turkey international had reportedly assured the Giallorossi he would sign a new contract despite interest from Fiorentina, only to join Juventus, where he has been reunited with former sporting director Frederic Massara. One of Roma's long-standing targets for the position is Iván Fresneda, although striking a deal with Sporting CP is expected to be anything but straightforward.
Sporting unwilling to lower asking price
According to Matteo Moretto, the Portuguese champions regard Fresneda as an important part of their plans and are unwilling to consider offers below €25m. Roma have already made initial enquiries, but if they hope to negotiate a lower fee, they may need to rely on the player's willingness to push for the move.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a switch to Serie A on several occasions in recent years, and this summer could finally provide the opportunity for him to take the next step in his career by testing himself in one of Europe's top leagues.
