De Vrij close to Panathinaikos move as he asks for two days to respond to Greek offer
Stefan de Vrij looks increasingly likely to leave Inter Milan and join Panathinaikos on a free transfer. The Greek club have stepped up their pursuit of the Dutch defender in recent days, with the 1992-born centre-back now entering the final stretch of his Inter contract, which expires on 30 June.
Panathinaikos’ proposal appeals to De Vrij on several levels: the central role he would have in Athens — something he has effectively lost at Inter this season - and the financial terms on offer.
The Greek club have put forward a two-year contract until 30 June 2028, worth a fixed €1.75m net per season, with bonuses to be added.
De Vrij has asked Panathinaikos for two days before giving a final answer, but those close to him say he is leaning towards accepting. In his own mind, the player appears to consider his Inter career over, and among the clubs to have approached his entourage, Panathinaikos have presented the most convincing proposal from several points of view.
This season with Inter, very likely his last in Nerazzurri colours, De Vrij played 1,166 minutes across 17 appearances in Serie A, the Champions League, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.
