Fabio Paratici has begun to move Fiorentina’s transfer market into gear. While waiting to finalise a number of departures, the Viola sporting director has struck his first deal, reaching an agreement with Grêmio for Viery, the 2005-born Brazilian defender.

It was a real transfer-market blitz from Fiorentina’s deal-maker, who has now moved into the operational phase following his meeting with the Commisso family in recent weeks.

The exchange of documents between the two clubs is currently under way, with Viery expected in Florence at the start of next week to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on his new Fiorentina contract. The deal will run for five years, until June 2031.

It is a decisive acceleration from Fiorentina, who have seen off interest from other clubs, including Juventus.

To close the operation, Paratici chose to negotiate directly with Grêmio rather than trigger the heavy €50m release clause in the defender’s contract. An agreement with the Brazilian club has instead been reached on the basis of a fixed fee of €15m, plus a further €2m in potential bonuses, taking the total package to €17m.
