Real Madrid have pulled off a major signing of experience and quality for their midfield and attacking line. Bernardo Silva has already signed the contract that will tie him to Los Blancos, having accepted the proposal put forward by the Spanish club at the specific request of new head coach José Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager is understood to have identified his compatriot as one of the ideal profiles to add leadership, tactical intelligence and versatility to a squad already rich in talent.

After years as a key figure at Manchester City, Bernardo is now ready to take on a new challenge in La Liga, wearing the shirt of Europe’s most decorated club. The deal was finalised in the past few hours and, according to Fabrizio Romano, is for two years with an option for a third season.

At 31, Bernardo Silva has decided to leave Manchester City after winning numerous domestic and international trophies and becoming one of the symbols of the Pep Guardiola era.

His ability to operate in several roles — from wide forward to central midfielder, as well as in the No 10 position — makes him a precious asset for Mourinho. For Real Madrid, this is a signing of real calibre, designed to increase the squad’s experience and help them face a season expected to be packed with commitments and ambition, both in Spain and in Europe.
