According to a new report by English news outlet The Daily Mail, Aston Villa have entered the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen's standout flanker Leon Bailey.

In the report it's claimed that Villa are looking for a new attacking midfielder, and Bailey seems to be at the top of their list. Apparently, the Villans are prepared to offer Leverkusen something in the range of 25-30M GBP to acquire him. He still has two years left on his contract, so unless the Bundesliga club extend him, they risk losing him on a free transfer after next year. This could mean that Leverkusen could be willing to negotiate for him and monetize his sale.

Bailey joined Bayer in 2017 from Belgian side Genk, and last year he probably had the best season of his career statistically, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists in 40 matches for them. If he indeed ends up at Aston Villa, he would join the other big acquisition by the club, Emi Buendia. Apparently, Dean Smith's club is not done, and wants to put together a very competitive squad for the upcoming season, trying to land Villa in European competitions.
