Besiktas keep looking to Serie A: Nuno Tavares and Meret among their targets
Besiktas are once again turning their attention to Italy ahead of the next transfer window. Italian newspapers reports renewed interest from the Turkish club in Nuno Tavares, just as happened last January.
The Black Eagles are understood to be ready to submit an offer of around €15m to SS Lazio, but the player appears inclined to turn it down, as he did a few months ago. Gennaro Gattuso, who wants a say in the decision, is also against letting him leave.
Tavares is not the only Serie A player on the radar of Vincenzo Italiano’s Besiktas. The Turkish side are also considering Alex Meret. The SSC Napoli goalkeeper had been a regular starter until this season, when Vanja Milinković-Savić significantly reduced his playing time.
Massimiliano Allegri will assess during pre-season who should be handed the No 1 role, and Meret’s future will depend on that decision.
A few weeks ago, his agent Federico Pastorello discussed the situation with TuttomercatoWeb: “In the past he also had opportunities when his contract was running down, but he wanted to stay there. Now we need to understand who the coach will be and what the plans are: you can accept one season like this, but it is a shame to see a goalkeeper like Meret not being used. Milinković is a very good goalkeeper, but you can accept this situation for one season; for it then to become the modus operandi of playing, I personally see that as a shame.”
