At 37, Sergio Busquets set to hang up his boots

According to Spanish outlet COPE, Sergio Busquets is close to announcing his retirement from football. The Catalan midfielder is currently at Inter Miami, now something of a Barcelona old boys’ club, with Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Jordi Alba also on the books. Reports suggest Busquets, 37, has already made his decision and will call time on his career once the season is over. Much will depend on how far his team go.
The MLS regular season ends on 18 October. Inter Miami are on course to qualify for the play-offs, highly likely at this stage, which would extend their campaign from 22 October until the final on 6 December.
Busquets joined the Florida side in 2023 and has since made 104 appearances, scoring once and providing 15 assists.
One of the greats of his generation, Busquets has won it all: a World Cup and European Championship with Spain; Champions League and Club World Cup triumphs with Barcelona; plus countless domestic titles with the Catalan giants.
