Chelsea’s most expensive signing: Morgan Rogers joins in €137m deal
Chelsea have completed a major transfer coup. Xabi Alonso’s side have officially signed Morgan Rogers, with the 23-year-old forward joining from Aston Villa for €137m - the most expensive deal in the club’s history.
The England attacking midfielder has signed a contract until June 2032, with an option for a further season, becoming both Chelsea’s record signing and the most expensive British player of all time.
Rogers is the third Premier League signing this summer to break the €100m mark, after Elliot Anderson’s €135m move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City and Sandro Tonali’s €107m transfer from Newcastle United to Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Mateus Fernandes has joined Tottenham from West Ham United for €99m.
Rogers, who has just returned from World Cup duty with England, is Xabi Alonso’s third signing for Chelsea after Marco Palestra and Geovanny Quenda.
“I am very excited about the project, the new coach, the players we have and the direction the club is going in. That is why I am here and I cannot wait to get started,” Rogers said.
