Inter in regular contact with Tottenham over Romero as Barcelona and Atlético Madrid enter race

Cristian Romero’s time at Tottenham appears to be over. The Argentina defender is not expected to stay in north London, with Spurs actively working to find the most favourable exit solution.

Roberto De Zerbi is a huge admirer of the player, but off-field issues are understood to be holding the Italian coach back from intervening with the club. As a result, the 28-year-old captain is set to move on.

Tottenham’s asking price
Tottenham initially wanted €60m to let “Cuti” leave. But Romero’s recent fitness issues, along with the injury he suffered in the World Cup final against Spain, have reportedly led Spurs officials to lower their demands to around €45m-€50m. That is where Inter come in. The Nerazzurri have long been looking for suitable reinforcements in defence, and Lautaro Martínez’s compatriot would fit Cristian Chivu’s plans.

Sporting director Piero Ausilio and the rest of Inter’s management have already made contact with the player’s representatives, after asking for information during talks over Djed Spence. According to SportMediaset, a deal could be structured as a loan with an obligation to buy. Talks are continuing behind the scenes, but Inter must also deal with competition from Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.
