Midfield is a priority for Lazio, and Yunus Musah is the latest name under consideration. The United States midfielder has returned to AC Milan after his loan spell at Atalanta and is looking for a new club.

His tactical versatility makes him a profile that could suit the Biancocelesti, and it cannot be ruled out that his name also came up in talks between Lazio and Milan during negotiations over Mario Gila.

Lazio looking at loan formula
At Formello, however, the deal would only be considered on certain terms. According to Corriere dello Sport, Lazio’s preferred formula would be a paid loan, with either an option or an obligation to buy linked to qualification for European competition next season. The figures being discussed are understood to be around €2m for the loan, with a potential permanent fee set at about €18m. It is a strategy Lazio have already used in other recent negotiations as they look to limit financial risk.

Gattuso also weighing up system
Any move for Musah will also depend on Gennaro Gattuso’s tactical plans. The manager has begun summer work using a 4-2-3-1, but has not ruled out switching to a 4-3-3 or other variations during the season.

Lazio’s search for the right balance in midfield could therefore shape their next moves in the market, as the club look to identify players best suited to their new manager’s ideas.
