LIGA MX - Orbelin Pineda close to joining Celta Vigo
As reported by Mexican outlet Record, Cruz Azul standout forward Orbelin Pineda is close to playing in Europe.
In fact, sources close to the player's entourage revealed that he is close to joining Spanish club Celta Vigo, for a yet undisclosed sum. In order to bring the Mexican in, Celta needed to free a spot for non-EU players on their roster, something they did by naturalizing Pineda's El Tri teammate Nestor Araujo. The report claims that Orbelin could either join Celta this transfer window or as a winter transfer, leaving the player with Cruz Azul for the Mexican Apertura tournament, although he does not seem to be a priority for the Spaniards right now, so it seems likely we will see Pineda in Mexico one more time before he departs for Europe.
The forward represented Mexico in the last Gold Cup which just concluded, as he was one of the best players for El Tri throughout the tournament, continuing his good run of form that saw him become one of the best players for a Cruz Azul side that became Mexican champions in the Clausura 2021.
